New joint or take cover?
Now that Vosa have changed the MOT criteria we are getting more and more bottom ball joint dust covers split failures. I am sure some garages are now needlessly fitting new components, purely for commercial reasons.
At Worcester’s Mobile Mechanic we think our job is to save the customer money, whilst repairing the car professionally. To this end, when a customer’s vehicle fails for this small part, we just replace the split boot. On this particular vehicle (a Mazda 6) if we had to have renewed the bottom arms the bill would have been in excess of £400.00.
Replacing the dust cover is a relatively easy job and it is quicker than removing the whole arm.
Remember… A badly maintained vehicle is a breakdown waiting to happen!
