Cheap part solves the problem

I always find it amazing what problems will flag up on the diagnostic computer when the actual cause of the fault is a very poorly pipe.

The pipe in itself is relatively inexpensive – in fact, the word cheap springs to mind.

The car was not accelerating correctly and had a very lumpy tick-over. The computer was pointing to the air-mass meter and idle control valve as the likely suspects.

At Worcester’s Mobile Mechanic we like to check everything before purchasing expensive parts. The garage can actually replicate the way the air mass reads and also the idle control valve. This is done with a simple vacuum gauge with a non running engine and it was found that this pipe was leaking, causing all sorts of drivability problems.

Once replaced the car, the car drove as it should. The resulting invoice was for 1.5 hours labour and threepence for the part. The customer was really happy and commented that it could have been a lot worse.
