It never ceases to amaze me how many garages seem to have forgotten the basic rule of car repair – do the simple test first!
Just because the ECU/diagnostic computer has stated ‘misfire Number 2 cylinder’ this does not necessarily mean the coil pack is faulty.
At Worcester’s Mobile Mechanic, we do not trust the computer 100 per cent as my technicians have always been taught that the diagnostic computer is telling you where to start looking for the fault.
Our first action on a petrol engine is to remove the spark plugs and then, after checking the plug for condition, carry out a simple and inexpensive compression test. Should the car pass this test, we will then do a chemical test.
On this occasion, the test showed instantly that there was a problem within the cylinder head and the solution was a head gasket repair.
Remember a poorly maintained vehicle is a breakdown waiting to happen. Come to the experts at Worcester’s Mobile Mechanic.
