I have always believed in looking on the bright side but I’m afraid some motorists really do believe their vehicles will run and run.
This picture is of a 2001 Peugeot 205 Gti’s cam-belt. The car came in as the steering had gone tight and the battery warning light was illuminated. Over the ‘phone, we diagnosed an auxiliary belt problem.
Against our advice, the customer drove the vehicle to the garage and suggested we had a look at the “slight knock” from the front. Oh, and as an afterthought, can we check out the cam-belt?
The car was banging every time it went over a bump. The auxiliary belt tensioner had exploded, new suspension was needed AND the front brakes were dangerous.
In my opinion, the car was worth £500 – on a good day if somebody was desperate for a car and was viewing it with blinkers on!
We advised the customer to scrap the car.
