False economy
Motorists are always trying to save money these days and a new customer to WMM purchased a cheap diagnostic tool for approximately £35.
The car had a loss of power, and he could not work out what the problem was. He said he was "handy" with the spanners.
The diagnostic tool he used showed a fault code. He would clear the code and then he could drive for a while.
Eventually the code refused to clear.
The diagnostic computer at WMM is one of the most state-of-the-art on the market and the staff are highly trained. It indicated a turbo actuator fault.
However, a computer points to the component not working correctly, and that component may be playing up because of an unrelated part. In this instance, if WMM had replaced the turbo, the fault would still have been there!
WMM carried out a simple smoke test on the inlet side of the induction system. We found a faulty valve assembly attached to the vacuum pump.
This part is available from Ford as part of the complete vacuum pump and not on its own. The whole package costs approximately £600 plus VAT.
WMM know a specialist supplier who sells just the assembly we need and it costs far less than £600 plus VAT. The customer was shocked, and relieved, that it was so affordable.
