Pipe work stops coolant leak

At Worcester’s Mobile Mechanic we work on a lot of imported vehicles, some of which are renowned for coolant leaks.

This is not usually a problem as we have the correct tools in place to help find the leak.

Normally we attach the pressure tester and then put the system at operating pressure with the engine not running to look for the leak, which is usually a split pipe or a water pump leaking through the tell-tale hole.

This vehicle had a very small leak on the nearside of the engine. Once we found it, we initially thought the pipe had corroded but upon removal of the “banjo” bolt holding the pipe to the block, we discovered the bolt itself had failed and the pipe was not held firmly in position.

We had to extract the broken thread from the block and then we had the added problem of locating a new bolt. Once completed, the vehicle stopped leaking coolant.

Remember a poorly maintained vehicle is a breakdown waiting to happen. Keep cool and come to the experts at Worcester’s Mobile Mechanic.
